The American army indicated this Thursday, June 11, that it had neutralized a third oil tanker accused of violating the blockade of Iranian ports in the space of a week, while the ceasefire between the two countries is now constantly violated.

“US forces detained an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman at 11:20 p.m. on June 10, after the vessel violated the blockade imposed on Iran by attempting to transport Iranian oil,” the Regional Command (Centcom) said on X.

It is the third commercial ship to suffer this fate this week, according to Washington, and the 9th since the start of the blockade.

A conflict that gets bogged down

More than three months after the start of the conflict, and two after the entry into force of a ceasefire that was generally respected until last weekend despite belligerent declarations from both sides and laborious negotiations, the war seems to be intensifying again.

The ceasefire in the Middle East is now “practically meaningless”, Iranian diplomacy said on Thursday after a new night of American bombings approaching Tehran, to which Iran responded by striking its Gulf neighbors and Jordan.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump promised an imminent agreement with Iran – for the 38th time since the start of the conflict according to a CNN count – before making an about-face the next day.

It is “difficult to remain optimistic”, summarized Pakistan, the main mediator country, calling for diplomacy and dialogue, as after it Moscow, Beijing, Ankara and Riyadh.
