The FBI has gathered approximately 10,000 hours of video recordings in the inquiry into the disappearance and potential abduction of Nancy Guthrie, as stated by an FBI official on Thursday. The official highlighted the importance of collecting, reviewing, and analyzing the video footage in the investigation that started after Guthrie, 84, who is the mother of “TODAY” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1.
Tools are being utilized to improve the videos, but each video must be watched in real time, stated the FBI official, emphasizing that slowing down or enhancing the footage requires more time. Last week, additional canvassing was conducted to acquire more footage from camera systems in Guthrie’s Arizona neighborhood.
Among the video footage is Ring camera footage obtained by Fox News Digital, showing a car driving around 2:30 a.m. on the night Guthrie went missing. The Pima County sheriff’s office acknowledged the video, which was recorded about 2.5 miles away from Guthrie’s residence, beyond the specified 2-mile perimeter for video collection.
The FBI released a widely shared security video two weeks ago showing a masked, armed individual with a backpack tampering with a Google Nest doorbell camera at Guthrie’s home. Although authorities consider the person a suspect, they have not disclosed his identity. Sheriff Chris Nanos of Pima County stated that investigators believe Guthrie was taken from her home near Tucson, possibly during the night.
Guthrie was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on January 31 after dining at her daughter Annie Guthrie’s residence, according to Nanos. Her disappearance was reported after she failed to arrive at a friend’s house to attend a virtual church service.
Savannah Guthrie announced on Tuesday that her family is offering a reward of up to $1 million for her mother’s safe return. She urged supporters to continue praying fervently, expressing hope for a miracle and her mother’s safe return.
FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed that the images from the Nest camera were retrieved from residual data in backend systems since Guthrie did not have a subscription that would store the footage. Patel mentioned that the images were captured the morning Guthrie went missing, although sources informed NBC News that one of the images released was recorded earlier.
The investigation includes examining DNA evidence collected from Guthrie’s residence and relevant search sites. Nanos mentioned that authorities might utilize genetic genealogy, a forensic technique combining advanced DNA analysis with traditional genealogical research, in the inquiry.
