Known for having performed the biggest themes from the Disney studios, the American singer Peabo Bryson died at the age of 75, arousing strong emotion, notably that of Céline Dion.
This is very sad news. The famous film music performer, Peabo Bryson, died on Tuesday June 2 at the age of 75 following a stroke. His family made his death official in the columns of the American magazine People: “We find comfort in knowing (…) how many lives have been marked by his voice and his generosity.” Born in South Carolina, the artist began his career at the end of the 1970s with a first eponymous opus in 1976, before achieving commercial success two years later thanks to the album Reaching for the skywhich propelled him to the top of the R&B charts of the time.
Céline Dion in mourning: She pays tribute to him
His death deeply affected Canadian singer Céline Dion, who shared with him one of the greatest duets of her career for the soundtrack of the animated film La Belle et la Bête. The international performer wanted to pay him a vibrant tribute through a publication on his Instagram account: “I am heartbroken to learn of Peabo Bryson’s passing today. Her incredible voice and kindness embodied the beauty of singing and performing.”. Very moved, the one who has just announced new concert dates for the year 2027 remembered their studio work sessions at the beginning of the 1990s: “So wonderful and generous to me years ago when recording Beauty and the Beast. He made me feel so comfortable when I was just learning to sing in English.” She concluded her farewell message by calling her former partner a “a true symbol of the joy that music has brought to my life”.
A double triumph at the Grammy Awards thanks to Disney Studios
This memorable collaboration allowed the duo to win the prestigious Grammy Award for best pop performance by a duo or group in 1993. Building on this global success, the American entertainment giant renewed its confidence in the singer for the film Aladdin. Peabo Bryson had thus lent his voice to the original version of the cult song Ce rêve bleu (A Whole New World), which he performed in a duet with the artist Regina Belle, winning in the process a second identical award during the famous musical ceremony. With a rich discography of around twenty albums, the singer published his final studio project in 2018, called Stand for Love. Even today, his classics like Tonight I celebrate my love or If ever you’re in my arms again accumulate millions of plays. Married since 2010 to Tanya Boniface, former member of the British group The 411the deceased leaves behind two children, his daughter Linda and his son Robert.
