On March 26th, members of Lionel Jospin’s family, many socialists, and a few stars attended the national tribute paid to the former socialist prime minister at the Hôtel des Invalides, before his burial at the Montparnasse cemetery.
A grand and moving final farewell. On March 26th, President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron presided over the national tribute paid to Lionel Jospin at the Hôtel des Invalides, in the southern courtyard of the Dôme. The former prime minister’s close relatives, who passed away on Sunday, March 22nd at the age of 88, were all present. His wife, the philosopher Sylviane Agacinski, and his two children, Hugo and Eva Jospin, both from his first marriage with Élisabeth Dannenmuller, arrived together.
Emmanuel Macron warmly greeted them before delivering the eulogy, solemnly, in front of Lionel Jospin’s coffin which entered the Hôtel des Invalides around 11 am. As expected, several socialists attended, including François Hollande, and former prime ministers Laurent Fabius, Édith Cresson, Jean-Marc Ayrault and Manuel Valls. Jack Lang, the former Minister of Culture, was also present despite his involvement in the Epstein case. Personalities from the world of cinema and music such as Chiara Mastroianni, the daughter of Catherine Deneuve, Marianne James, and Gérard Hernandez were also photographed at the Invalides.
After the national tribute, Lionel Jospin’s family members went to the Montparnasse cemetery for his burial. Along the way, Éva Jospin was particularly moved and shed a few tears. The 51-year-old artist was particularly close to her father, who always took care of her despite his political responsibilities as she revealed to Le Monde in 2023. Her husband Adriano Valerio was by her side to support her, along with their 10-year-old son, Carlo.
