Paul Pogba made his comeback with Monaco against Brentford’s U23 team on Thursday. The Frenchman took the opportunity to score his first goal for the Principality club.
The 2018 World Cup champion, Paul Pogba (33 years old), who has been absent from the field for three months due to a calf injury, played and scored on Thursday in a friendly match with Monaco against Brentford’s U23 team, according to information from the Principality club. The match took place on Thursday late morning against the under-23 team of the English club Brentford, at the La Turbie performance center.
Despite the defeat (2-1), Sebastien Pocognoli was able to see various players from his squad who had been out injured for a long time return to play, such as Paul Pogba and the English international central defender Eric Dier. Pogba started the match, played the first 25 minutes, and scored the only goal of the first half, before being replaced by the young Boubakar Dembaga, following the planned strategy.
Fati, Dier, and Biereth also in attendance
“Paul will use these two weeks of international break to progress in the planned medical scheme and resume collective training,” Pocognoli said last week, before elaborating, “Everything will depend on these two weeks to determine a return date to competition.” Eric Dier, captain for this match, played for 60 minutes, as did the forwards Ansu Fati and Mika Biereth, who have been lacking playing time recently. Finally, Pape Cabral and Kassoum Ouattara, also out injured for a long time, played one half each.
There are no more friendly matches scheduled for Monaco before the next Ligue 1 matchday on Sunday, April 5th, when they host Marseille. Pogba, who has only played 30 minutes in Ligue 1 this season, has not appeared in competition for Monaco since December 5th and the away game at Brest.
