On April 1st, price hikes in energy are expected. The prefect of Guyane, Antoine Poussier, welcomed various economic actors such as MEDEF, CTG, SARA, the Chamber of Commerce and Crafts, and a group of gas stations. During a roundtable discussion, the prefect aimed to reassure and establish initial contact in light of the international situation.
“The increase is significant but contained. There won’t be a substantial increase in gas prices. There is no need to stock up on fuel, and there is no risk of shortage in Guyane,” said Antoine Poussier, Prefect of Guyane.
Could the local authority provide assistance? The Guyane community, through the octroi de mer tax it collects, can intervene to mitigate the impact of new tariff increases.
“In any case, we need to await the decision made by the Prefect on April 1st and require information from customs on the consumption volume in 2024. Only then can we establish interesting perspectives based on these price hikes,” said Gabriel Serville, President of the territorial community of Guyane.
In mainland France, since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz where 20% of the world’s oil transits, fuel prices have now surpassed 2 euros per liter in some regions.
