Donald Trump had promised to “retaliate” to Iran, accusing it of having shot down an American helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz with two pilots on board.
The Central Command of the American Armies (Centcom) announced this Tuesday, June 9, to bomb Iran after the attack on an American helicopter.
The American armed forces “launched today at 5 p.m. local time, self-defense strikes against Iran, on the orders of the commander in chief, in response to yesterday’s destruction of an Apache helicopter of the American army”, we can read on X.
Earlier in the day, Donald Trump promised to “reply” to Iran, accusing it of having shot down an American helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz.
“The United States must respond”
“The Iranians shot down one of our highly advanced Apache-type helicopters last night while it was flying over the Strait of Hormuz,” the American president wrote on his Truth Social network, specifying that the two pilots were unharmed.
“Nevertheless, the United States must respond to this attack,” he added. After these statements, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs wanted to minimize the incident.
“Foreign forces near our territory are constantly exposed to risks, due to their own human errors, simple accidents or the possibility of being caught in crossfire. To reduce this risk, the best solution is for them to leave,” Abbas Araghchi wrote on X.
Before his new outburst, Donald Trump had affirmed that American diplomacy was nevertheless close to a “very, very good agreement” to put an end to hostilities, citing a deadline of “two to three days” for it to be concluded.
Several skirmishes had already taken place between the two countries since the announcement in early April of a temporary ceasefire, with several series of strikes by the American army near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian attacks in the Gulf.
