Safran chooses Ludwigsburg for its new industrial investment in Germany

Berlin, Germany, June 9, 2026 – Safran Electronics & Defense today announces an investment of nearly 50 million euros in Germany, intended to increase its industrial and technological presence in the field of defense equipment, thus strengthening its historical anchorage of more than 40 years in the country.

This investment will result in the transfer of activities from its current site in Murr to a new center of excellence in Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg. Larger and with increased industrial capacities, this new site, which will be operational at the start of 2028, will support the growth of Safran Electronics & Defense’s activities in Germany.

This new site will strengthen the production and maintenance capabilities of the Murr factory, mainly dedicated to fiber optic gyroscopes (FOG) and PNT (Position, Navigation, Time) equipment used on civil and military platforms. It will also integrate new capabilities for the production and maintenance of portable optronics equipment for soldiers.

This investment will result in the creation of 200 jobs, notably for engineers, production technicians, quality managers, as well as business development and sales professionals. It strengthens Safran Electronics & Defense’s position as a privileged industrial ally of the Bundeswehr, the German government and the main players in the national defense industry.

“For more than 40 years, Safran Electronics & Defense Germany has equipped the German armed forces and defense industries with cutting-edge solutions, ranging from PNT to the field of optronics and guidance.” underlines Marzell Schiller, Director of Safran Electronics & Defense Germany. “This large-scale investment in Ludwigsburg will create value and jobs in the service of Germany’s technological sovereignty. It expands our ‘Made in Germany’ offering and reinforces our commitment to providing our customers with on-time deliveries. HAS”
