After Lyhanna’s death, several celebrities shared a call to demonstrate this Monday, June 8 in front of the various courts in France and the Ministry of Justice in Paris.
After the death of Lyhanna, 11, in Gers, many French personalities relayed the same message to denounce what they consider to be a collective failure in the protection of child victims of sexual violence. Actresses, singers, presenters and comedians have published a photo of themselves as a child, reports BFMTV.
At the initiative of the media Mesdames, founded by Maïtena Biraben, the message attached to the photos begins: “France does not protect its daughters”. Among the celebrities who have joined the movement are Juliette Binoche, Flavie Flament, Jeanne Cherhal, but also Emmanuelle Béart, Ariane Massenet and Andréa Bescond.
All shared a text denouncing the failures of the minor protection system. “France does not protect its daughters. I think of the mothers who filed a complaint, of the daughters who suffered, of the daughter of this individual who stole and ruined the lives of so many others. Public power, open your eyes. Lyhanna was left alone. This is unacceptable, and doing nothing now makes you complicit!” can we read. “Girls have rights including not being prey! That’s enough!”
A call to demonstrate peacefully this Monday
Andréa Bescond dénonce “Injustice de trop” and one “Infinite complacency towards child criminals” of the judicial system. According to her, this is a new occurrence of a recurring failure of justice, while several complaints targeted the suspect without him having ever been heard or placed in police custody. “Lyhanna, this is not an isolated case. Children killed by repeat child molesters, there have been several before her.”she adds in a video.
Philippine actress Leroy Beaulieu discusses “le cas de trop”adding: “I hope at least that this horrible story will serve to awaken all consciences. (…) It’s time we face this and absolutely demand that our system protects our children.”
Several celebrities shared a call to demonstrate this Monday, June 8 in front of the various courts of France and the Ministry of Justice in Paris: “Let us peacefully demonstrate our anger at this child crime gangrene and the impunity from which the attackers benefit.”
