As Tuttosport tells us, FC Barcelona is the last major European team to take a close interest in Andrea Cambiaso. After approaches from Manchester City and rumors from Chelsea, the Catalan club inquired with Juventus regarding the future of the Italian full-back. And in Turin, the door is not closed.
Juventus considers Cambiaso as an important part of its squad, but not as an untransferable player. In an economic context where few players are truly untouchable, the Bianconeri leaders are willing to discuss on condition of receiving an offer of at least 40 million euros.
If Barça is so interested in the Italian international, it is notably thanks to Hansi Flick. The German coach appreciates players capable of playing in several roles and breaking traditional tactical patterns. Cambiaso fits this profile perfectly. Luciano Spalletti, Italy coach, even called him a “three-dimensional player”, explaining that he sees the game not only vertically and horizontally, but also circularly.
This definition has left its mark on people’s minds even on the other side of the Pyrenees. Cambiaso is indeed recognized for his versatility, his mobility and his ability to occupy different spaces on the pitch. Qualities which also appeal to Spalletti, who considers him one of his trusted men in selection.
The player’s main weak point remains his defensive work. Thiago Motta sometimes paid dearly for some of his absences or errors in this area during the season. But his offensive qualities and his reading of the game more than compensate for these shortcomings in the eyes of many coaches.
Barça is therefore continuing its study of the matter and could take action in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen whether Joan Laporta will be ready to invest the 40 million requested by Juventus to offer Flick this atypical player who intrigues all of Europe.
