The Domaine de Primard has been under the leadership of Catherine Deneuve for 35 long and beautiful years before being resold, in 2014 for the very tidy sum of 4 million euros. But what becomes of this marvelous property which rests on the banks of the Eure? On the Instagram account dedicated to the estate, we discover that it was bought in 2018 by Frédéric Biousse and Guillaume Foucher and that it now hosts a magnificent luxury hotel inaugurated in 2020.
We find there 39 rooms with exceptional character and whose price per night varies between 280 and 800 euros. A heated outdoor swimming pool, a spa including a Japanese bath, a sauna, a hammam, several tennis and padel courts complete the already impeccable service of the castle. According to our colleagues at PurepeopleCatherine Deneuve also continues to come regularly to stay in this domain which was hers for so long and to which she largely contributed to the development.
The work of Catherine Deneuve, still preserved
On site, the iconic 82-year-old actress finds herself each time his friend and historic gardenerGérard Germaine, who is still in charge of beautifying the estate’s gardens. On May 6, the man was also rewarded by the Ministry of Culture by seeing the label of “Remarkable garden†be attributed to his work. A prestigious distinction which rewards not only the meticulous maintenance but also the immense richness of the 40 hectare parkimagined more than thirty years ago by the Belgian landscaper Jacques Wirtz who had already worked on the Tuileries, just that!
We also find the inspiration of French gardens around the estate, with in particular geometric paths and century-old boxwoods carefully maintained and trimmed to the nearest millimeter, while, along the moats and canals, nature is left a little more “wildâ€. In the heart of the park, we also discover the sublime rose garden created by Catherine Deneuve herself many years ago. Within it, no less than 250 varieties of old and English roses blossom under the magical fingers of Gérard Germaine.
A welcome audience
In addition to flourishing vegetation, the Domaine de Primard also welcomes several animals in semi-freedom such as cows, sheep, ducks, white swans and two donkeys. Note that the kitchens obtain their supplies directly from the large permaculture vegetable garden located within the estate. The park is open approximately 40 days a year. Guided tours are organized by the head gardener for the price of 12 euros and to the delight of visitors. A very nice conversion for an exceptional estate!
