Each accuses the other of violating an increasingly fragile ceasefire. The United States and Iran attacked each other on Wednesday June 3, with a first death in the Gulf since the end of hostilities. The Kuwaiti army reported, at the beginning of the afternoon, 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones fired by Iran. Kuwait decided to expel two members of the Iranian embassy after this new series of attacks.
Several drone attacks hit a terminal at Kuwait airport on Wednesday morning. One person died, authorities announced. Air traffic was suspended for a few hours following this “criminal aggression by Iran”, according to the army of the small country. Twenty-five ambulances were dispatched to the scene and 63 people were hospitalized, including “civilians, airport employees and travelers”presenting in particular “head injuries, brain hemorrhages, amputations and injuries resulting from explosions”explained the Ministry of Santé du Kuwait.
Initially, during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, Iran launched, according to the American command for the region (Centcom), several missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain. The American army carried out in response “defense strikes” on the Iranian island of Qeshm, in the Strait of Hormuz, hitting a communications tower, according to Tehran. The Revolutionary Guards responded again, in retaliation, by targeting an air base “home to helicopters” in Kuwait, as well as the headquarters of the US Fifth Naval Fleet in Bahrain.
In reaction, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, considered that Iran was playing “with fire” after this first deadly attack in the Gulf since the ceasefire came into force.
