The head of French diplomacy called on Washington and Tehran to conclude an agreement to stop the conflict in the region which has lasted for 95 days and a situation deemed “unsustainable” and “only produces losers”.
“A deal is within reach.” This is what the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot said this Tuesday, June 2, on France 2, regarding an end to the crisis in Iran and the Middle East.
“Iran and the United States must do everything”
Without however providing further details surrounding this declaration, the head of French diplomacy believes that “Iran and the United States must do everything to conclude it”.
“The situation is unbearable, it only produces losers”, judges Jean-Noël Barrot, who affirms that France “is suffering the full brunt of the consequences of a war that it did not choose”.
Donald Trump assured Monday that negotiations with Tehran to end the war were continuing “at a rapid pace” and that detente was looming in Lebanon, as demanded by the Iranian side.
A little earlier, however, the Iranian press agency Tasnim had affirmed that Tehran had “suspended” dialogue with Washington because of the “crimes” that Israel “continues to commit” in Lebanon.
“Nothing can justify the continuation of military operations and the prolonged occupation of Israel in the depths of Lebanese territory. This is why we called for a ceasefire, for Hezbollah to stop attacking Israel and for Israel to stop attacking Lebanon.”, also called Jean-Noël Barrot.
A new round of negotiations between Lebanese and Israeli emissaries is to be held this Tuesday in Washington.
