Attention, spoiler! âš ï¸ âš ï¸ âš ï¸

This article contains spoilers for “Rain or Shine”, episode 8 of season 3 and the finale of the entire series Euphoriacurrently available to stream on HBO Max and MyCanal.

Since the advent of the era of series, around twenty years ago, fans have not been deprived of bitter, violent or simply disappointing endings. From the final season of Game of Thrones (which, remember, was the subject of a petition to be fully returned) to Lostin 2004, and, more recently, Stranger Thingsthe end of any popular series inevitably causes turmoil in the guts of fans.

Sam Levinson, le showrunner d’Euphoriabroadcast for seven years, was aware of this when imagining the oversized 93-minute finale of his series. After the shocking death of Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, in the penultimate episode, the director did not shy away from his pleasure by making no less than four main characters disappear.

In a sinister macabre ballet, Laurie (Martha Kelly), Rue (Zendaya), Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and “G” (Marshawn Lynch) lose their lives in turn during the episode. And suffice to say that these consecutive disappearances left mixed feelings among critics and the public.

Starting with the film criticism of Page SixLauren Sarner, who deplores a season having ended as it began, that is to say: “vulgar, tasteless and spoiling its star cast with a ridiculous script”. “After a five-year time jump, the third part became a failed gangster comedy-drama, resembling a cartoon,†the American media annoys.

“Am I allowed to say that I’m kind of glad this show is over?â€

Vogue not much more convinced

“In Euphoria, all the characters have experienced difficult ordeals, which undoubtedly contributes to its strange charm. But as a reviewer, frankly, ‘I don’t know what to think’ sums it up pretty well.”

As for Internet users, on X, it’s a crisis, between emotions, amazement, big debates, disappointment and excitement.

“I absolutely didn’t want this ending for Rue. She deserved so much better. I can’t stop crying, it’s unfair.”

“This ending left me wanting more and all the characters seemed superfluous to me in this finale. This season had its good moments, but overall it was a fiasco.”

If fans could hope for a sequel, while doubt hovered over the future of the series, despite the elimination of almost all of its main actors, Sam Levinson confirmed its end on “Popcast”, the musical podcast of the New York Times. Information also confirmed by HBO with Variety.

As for the brutal end of Rue, the central character who propelled Zendaya to global stardom, he defended himself in a report broadcast after the broadcast of the series on HBO. “It was an authentic ending,” said Sam Levinson.

“The real end is that people like Rue don’t make it. I think ultimately I wanted to tell a heartfelt story about addiction.”

To see if this argument will find favor in the eyes of the fans. As for those who have not yet attended the grand finale, get ready: it still has its share of emotions and dramatic scenes in store for them. (mbr)
