Anorexia nervosa, bulimia and binge eating disorder are complex multifactorial pathologies. Ces eating disorders (TCA) affect nearly a million people in France, particularly young adolescent girls, and constitute the 2e cause of premature mortality among 15-24 year olds, just after road accidents according to Health Insurance.

The theme that was chosen this year is“Binge eating disorder” to provide precise answers to the questions regularly asked by people suffering from TCA and those around them.

Serious illnesses, on the rise and often underdiagnosed

“Cases of ED, anorexia nervosa in particular, have increased significantly with the health crisis. Requests for treatment in our TCA referral center have increased threefold, from 2021. There are more and more cases of anorexia near puberty, from the age of 10-12. But, total healing is entirely possible. There is no inevitability. This is the message we are trying to convey to families.” underlined Dr. Diane Morfin.

“I was alerted by my daughter’s amenorrhea and her weight loss,” says the mother of Marine, a 17-year-old anorexic. “We couldn’t figure out how to get Marine taken care of. The psychologists tried to put us in a box. In this CREATyon center, we found a caring listener. They also assessed her physical problems because she is growing.”

A referral center for anorexia and TCA at HCL

Since 2016, the TCA center in Lyon has been created to improve the management and care pathway for adult and minor patients with an eating disorder.
Since 2022, the HCL Lyon TCA center located within the Pierre Wertheimer hospital has offered:

“It’s a time for families that didn’t exist in traditional care. We try to allow everyone’s feelings to be expressed, to provide explanations to their questions and present them with all the arrangements for families existing in the region.”. Perrine Bertrand, psychologist at the TCA center.

« Être frère ou sœAt the heart of a patient, it is difficult, including within the family unit. With these group exchanges, they feel less alone, less helpless.
