“We must move to a culture of courage”points Monday June 1 Violette Spillebout, deputy for the north Together for the Republic on France Inter, and rapporteur of a proposed transpartisan law against violence in schools, written after the scandal of Bétharram, near Pau. MEPs will examine the text from this Monday afternoon.

“We need a law to better control all establishments, private and public, to control hiring in schools and extracurriculars with the current scandals”continues the MP. “We need this tool, this law to prosecute the perpetrators of violence in criminal proceedings”assure Violette Spillebout.

The other objective of the bill, recall its authors Violette Spillebout (Renaissance) and Paul Vannier (LFI), is to “secure all recruitment”by demanding “certificate of good standing”which will make it possible to check the criminal records of all people in contact with children – the criminal record and the tracking file of perpetrators of sexual violence – “let us enshrine in law the ban on corporal punishment”concludes Violette Spillebout.

On the control of establishments, the co-rapporteur of the text Paul Vannier insists on the need to strengthen them in private establishments under contracts “in order to protect the two million students who are educated there”. “Until very recently, these 7,500 establishments in the country were never controlled, and this absence allowed for decades, particularly in Bétharram, groups of aggressors to commit their crimes on generations of children”insists the LFI deputy, guest of ICI Béarn Bigorre on Monday. The bill provides for a check every five years.
