Researchers have found out that refrigerator turned into a breeding ground for bacteria responsible for gastroenteritis due to spills, leftover sauces, and humidity. A French virologist known as “thefrenchvirologist” on Instagram has advised the public to clean their refrigerators at least once a month with soapy water to prevent the proliferation of bacteria like salmonella and listeria. She distinguishes between cleaning and disinfecting, recommending regular cleaning and occasional disinfection with diluted bleach for vulnerable individuals or long-standing spills. It is advised to clear out expired food, wash shelves and containers, and reorganize the fridge regularly to maintain a hygienic environment and reduce the risk of gastrointestinal illness.
