Le Pas’temps celebrated its 15th anniversary this Saturday, May 30 in Malestroit. An anniversary celebrated in a festive and friendly atmosphere which recalled how this cultural facility has become, over the years, an essential place in local life.

“Fifteen years later, we are celebrating above all a place of life. HAS”

It is with these words that Bruno Gicquello, mayor of Malestroit, opened the festivities marking the 15th anniversary of Pass’temps. Surrounded by elected officials, volunteers, agents, partners and many residents, he retraced the history of this facility which has profoundly transformed the cultural life of the city.

Inaugurated in 2011 under the leadership of Bernard Miloux and his municipal team, the Pass’temps aimed to breathe new life into this remarkable ensemble on Rue Sainte-Anne and to create a cultural space open to all.

Much more than a media library

Fifteen years after its opening, the bet has largely succeeded.

Le Pas’temps today welcomes nearly 45,000 visitors per year and brings together more than 1,500 active members of its media library. But the numbers only tell part of the story.

“Here, everyone finds their place,” emphasized the mayor.

Children discovering their first books, families enjoying the toy library, artists exhibiting their works, associations organizing meetings, schools, college students, nursing home residents or medico-social structures: the Pas’temps has become a real intergenerational crossroads.

More than 70 events punctuate the life of the place every year.

A building steeped in history

The originality of Le Pass’temps is also due to its location in the heart of a historic building on Rue Sainte-Anne.

Before becoming a cultural space, the places experienced several lives. House of wine and spirits merchants, business, place of residence, the building still bears the traces of its past today.

The old beams from the 17th century, the preserved volumes and the renovated architecture bear witness to this history that visitors still discover today.

“The place has changed over the years, but it has always retained this idea of meeting and sharing,” recalled Bruno Gicquello.

A collective success

The mayor wanted to salute all the people who have contributed to keeping the Pas’temps alive for fifteen years.

The successive directors, Magali Colineaux then Leina Olivier Jégat, the agents, media librarians, speakers, associative partners but also the more than 50 volunteers who participate daily in the life of the place were warmly thanked.

Tribute was also paid to the elected officials, businesses and institutional partners who made the project possible, the mayor citing the architect Jean-Claude Vidaling who offered a tour of the building, the former general secretary of the town hall Jean-Michel Olivier and even Jean-François Le Quernec.

A birthday weekend dedicated to conviviality

To celebrate this anniversary, the Pass’temps offered a series of original activities throughout the weekend: game of “five-legged sheep” in the city’s windows, human library, large shared table, creative workshops, escape game, blind test, exhibitions and numerous participatory activities.

So many meetings which perfectly illustrate the spirit of the place: making culture a moment of encounter accessible to all.

Fifteen years after its opening, the Pass’temps thus confirms its status as the true cultural and social heart of Malestroit.
