Fast-food chains are marking National Hamburger Day 2026 with discounts, giveaways and loyalty rewards, with Burger King and Whataburger among the biggest draws, according to USA Today and the companies' own promotions. The offers are meant to bring in customers looking for a cheap burger and a few extras tied to app-based rewards.

At Burger King, Royal Perks members can get a free hamburger with a purchase of $3 or more at participating locations nationwide on Thursday, May 28, according to AllRecipes. The same promotion also gives members who spend $10 a chance at up to four months of Spotify Premium for free, as reported by the publication.
USA Today said the Burger King deal requires customers to use the BK app or bk.com and that the offer applies only to Royal Perks members. Burger King has made similar meal-time promotions a regular part of the holiday, the story said.

Whataburger adds a yearlong prize
Whataburger is offering Rewards members a free Whataburger when they order a medium fry and medium drink online or scan the app in-store, according to the company. The chain said the qualifying order also enters customers for a chance to win Whataburger for a year.
Fifty winners will receive monthly app offers for 12 months, including free Whataburger Whatameals, Whatachick’n sandwich Whatameals, a nine-piece WhataWings order, a breakfast item or a 16-ounce shake, Whataburger said. The company said the total value can reach up to $420 in favorites over the year.
Whataburger also said Rewards members who do not want to order on Thursday, May 28, can still enter by emailing [email protected].
