Not Yet Decided on His International Future

Still undecided about his international future, having missed all of his recent call-ups, Matias Fernandez-Pardo is no longer considered “selectable” by Belgium.
The beginning of Matias Fernandez-Pardo’s (21 years old) international career is quite unique. The winger has missed his first four call-ups with the Spanish youth teams, whether it be with the U21s or the U20s, and has not been called up by any coach since. At the end of this month of March, he will spend his time with the “Dogues” at the Domaine de Luchin.
Thus, seemingly, Matias Fernandez-Pardo still has the possibility to choose between three national teams: Spain, Belgium, and Italy, where his mother was born. However, one door seems to be closed.
Belgium – A Firm No
In charge of the Belgium national team since January 2025, succeeding Domenico Tedesco, Rudi Garcia was a guest on the Ligue 1+ platform this Sunday. Invited to the show called “Le Club”, he participated in “Face au Mur”, one of its famous segments. The theme was simple: pictures of players would appear before his eyes and he had to comment on them one by one.
As you might expect, one of the last faces to appear was that of Matias Fernandez-Pardo. Rudi Garcia was very quick, and clear in his statement: “I cannot talk about him because he has chosen Spain. For me, he is not selectable,” he declared with a certain distance. It seems that Thomas Meunier’s mission as an ambassador may have failed. The upcoming gatherings will confirm this.
