“Faced with the unacceptable threats weighing on Ukrainian civilians and foreign diplomats, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs is summoning at the minister’s request the ambassador of the Russian Federation to France,” declares the Quai d’Orsay
France announced on Wednesday May 27 that it had summoned the Russian ambassador after Moscow’s call for foreign diplomats to leave Kiev before new strikes on the Ukrainian capital, already bombed by Russia last weekend. “Following last weekend’s massive strikes and the unacceptable threats weighing on Ukrainian civilians and foreign diplomats, theMinistry of Europe and Foreign Affairs  summons at the request of the minister the ambassador of the Russian Federation to France »wrote a spokesperson for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release.
For several days, Russia has been threatening an escalation in its attacks on Ukraine, in revenge for a Ukrainian strike that killed, according to Moscow, 21 people in a high school in occupied Ukrainian territory. Russian diplomacy on Monday called on foreign nationals living in kyiv, including diplomatic staff, to leave the Ukrainian capital before further bombings.

“An unacceptable escalation”
“Through its actions, Russia testifies every day to its cynicism and its disregard for international law”continued the French spokesperson, adding that “France strongly condemns the intimidation by Moscow which is proof of the military impasse in which the country finds itself in Ukraine”. On Tuesday, other European countries summoned Russian diplomats.
Denouncing a “unacceptable escalation”a spokesperson for the European Union, Anitta Hipper, announced on X that the Russian charge d’affaires in Brussels had been summoned as a sign of protest and assured that the EU delegation would remain present in the Ukrainian capital. Germany, one of kyiv’s main allies, also summoned the Russian ambassador, ensuring that it “Wouldn’t be intimidated†et “will continue to support Ukraine with all its strength”. The Russian representative in Oslo was also summoned by Norway, a European country not a member of the EU, to protest against the «menaces».
