Far from being content with receiving his trophy, the 70-year-old artist proved that he had lost none of his devastating energy. Phil Collins won’t perform at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction
Si l’institution du Rock & Roll Hall of Fame s’apprête à célébrer Phil Collins this year, the artist will unfortunately not be able to reward the public with a performance. Outstanding drummer with an inimitable style and genius singer, first as a pillar of the group Genesis then during a solo career of rare dazzlingness, the British artist faced serious medical problems. For several years, his state of health has seriously deteriorated, accumulating significant injuries to his back and knees which hamper his mobility, as well as type 2 diabetes.
It was during a touching interview given to the show BBC Breakfast that Phil Collins, who will have the immense privilege of being inducted for the second time (a rare feat), made this difficult announcement. He explained in full transparency that he did not yet feel fit enough to perform live at such a ceremony. However, the interpreter of In the Air Tonight wanted to reassure his many admirers: his state of health has generally stabilized for a few months and he feels slightly better, although the scene remains out of reach for the moment.
Dick Parry, the iconic saxophonist of Pink Floyd, has died
The world of progressive rock loses one of its most precious artisans. Dick Parrystudio and stage musician whose breath left its mark on millions of listeners, died at the age of 83. It was the guitarist David Gilmour, deeply touched by the loss of his long-time friend, with whom he had shared the stage and music since the age of 17 in their first youth groups, who had the difficult task of announcing the sad news on the networks: “His touch and his tone were recognizable among a thousand, a signature of immense beauty”.
If his name is not necessarily known to the general public, his musical work undeniably is. Dick Parry is the genius saxophonist behind the most iconic solos in Pink Floyd’s discography. It is to him that we owe the masterful brass interventions on anthology pieces such as Money (on the album The Dark Side of the Moon), Shine On You Crazy DiamondAnd Us and Them.Â
The precise causes of his death were not communicated by his relatives.
