AS Bretagne returns from Brittany with a head full of memories and a very positive sporting record. Engaged with two U11 teams in the Dirinon International Tournament, one of the most competitive youth events in France, the Reunion club was able to stand out against renowned teams from mainland France and overseas.
– A historic victory against FC Lorient –
The AS Bretagne 1 team, reigning Reunion U10 champion, had a remarkable run, ranking among the 16 best teams out of 72 entered. After a successful group stage, marked in particular by a victory (3-1) against Landerneau FC and a draw (2-2) against SC Bastia, the young Reunion Islanders qualified for the Champions Tournament, reserved for the 24 best teams.
The highlight of the weekend will remain their historic 1-0 victory against FC Lorient, thanks to a goal from Yvan Robert. “This meeting constitutes the first victory in the history of AS Bretagne against a team from a French professional club, a symbolic performance for our training club and for Reunionese football,” underlines the club. The journey finally ended in the round of 16 against FC Metz, future contender for the title.
For its part, AS Bretagne 2 also delivered good performances despite tough opposition, notably facing Stade Brestois, AS Nancy Lorraine and AS Pirae de Tahiti.
Beyond the results, this trip was also “a wonderful human and educational experience” for the young players, between cultural discoveries, meetings, leisure activities and visits, notably to Parc Astérix, in Paris and even to the Stade de Reims. A sporting and human adventure that the club will not soon forget.
