A man was arrested at a Cyprus airport in illegal possession of embryos: authorities suspect international trafficking between the island and Mexico

Three men were arrested in Cyprus; they are accused of being involved in vast embryo trafficking from the Turkish part of the island.

Several individuals were arrested in Cyprus, suspected of being involved in potential international embryo trafficking. The first was arrested at an airport on the island in possession of four embryos, transported in a container, completely illegally. This is, according toLe Figarod’un Israélien.

Two other people, of Turkish origin (remember that the island is shared between Greeks in the south and Turks in the north), were arrested during a “raid on a local clinic”, according to the Israeli website Ynetyou will compare us with the cityFigaro. The two men would respectively be director of this clinic and doctor within the establishment. They were both taken into custody.

All three are accused of having wanted to illegally send embryos, from a clinic specializing in fertility issues, located in Nicosia, the Cypriot capital, also divided in two, abroad. The destination is not yet confirmed, but according to our colleagues, it could be Mexico. All in containers marked “Life Parcel”, without authorization.

The police may therefore have got their hands on international embryo trafficking, violating “the legislation governing the transplantation of human cells, tissues and organs”, as indicated by the Israeli media Ynet. 

According to the latter, investigators will collect testimonies and analyze data from video surveillance cameras to understand the nature and extent of the facts.
