F1 Painful outcome in Quebec, Antonelli furious at the defense of the winner, Russell! – Le Mag Sport Auto

Race 1 of the 2026 F1 Canadian Grand Prix has just ended in Montreal. On the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, the Sprint event ended after a close battle. Summary of this round, highlights and complete ranking, after the checkered flag.

Canadian F1 Grand Prix: it’s time to leave!

Sun, on the starting grid of the Canadian F1 Grand Prix, sprint race, but with many cars absent. Since four drivers will leave the pits, after violation of the park closed by their respective teams. Among them, Pierre Gasly, who will not aim for any results but rather, an accumulation of information, with a view to the main qualification and tomorrow’s race. The cars complete the formation lap without incident, be careful at the start.

Let’s go to Montreal! The poleman retains his place while Lewis Hamilton overtakes Oscar Piastri, on the outside, after the first chicane and following an excellent takeoff. Overwhelmed by Sergio Perez when the lights went out, Esteban Ocon regained his place when braking at the hairpin. Colapinto and Hulkenberg explain themselves but the German has to bypass the chicane and bow. The Mercedes are already escaping with disconcerting ease…

After three rounds, the top ten ranking has not changed, apart from LH44 gaining one place. On the other hand, EO31 is twelfth, just behind Franco Colapinto’s Alpine. At the back of the pack, Albon overtook Bottas, who however regained his place a few seconds later with his soft tires. Oh no, Hadjar stopped, the engine according to Isack! The best Alpine enters the top ten.

Antonelli vs Russell, things are going badly!

And at the head it heats up, Antonelli attacks Russell, it cuts into the chicane, the contact was close! Toto Wolff must be shaking… But Kimi is clearly faster than George. Error, again, from Antonelli, who cuts a corner and loses a place against Lando! 7 laps have been covered and the overall leader seems to be breaking down… He demands a penalty against his own teammate! Toto intervenes by asking his pilot to stay focused.

Lando Norris now comes back on Russell, definitely not fast enough today. LH44 puts pressure on Antonelli. Isack Hadjar comes out of the stands to carry out tests. 11th lap, Antonelli got away from the threat Hamilton, the latter now being under threat from Piastri. The halfway mark has just been passed. Franco goes ninth, over Carlos, the Argentinian is on the verge of points.

While Kimi comes back on Lando, Lewis is now slower, Oscar and Charles are stuck behind the Ferrari. 18th lap, retirement of Fernando Alonso. Ten-second penalty against Nico Hulkenberg. Pierre in the pits for a tire change. Hamilton is in agony on the penultimate lap. Lewis lost one then two places as Charles took advantage of the Mclaren maneuver. In front, Antonelli cuts again, trying on Norris.

Victory for Russell ahead of Norris, Antonelli, Piastri, Leclerc and Hamilton. Place in the ranking of this race.
