This week, Réforme highlights a war that we rarely talk about: the one that is ravaging South Sudan. Born in 2011, this young state, the most recent member of the UN, has almost since its creation been plunged into a devastating conflict, marked by ethnic and political tensions between the president and the vice-president.

South Sudan: a forgotten war with dramatic consequences

The toll is staggering: around 400,000 dead and millions displaced. On site, the reporter Réforme went to a refugee camp where people are trying to escape the war, without always escaping hunger. International aid remains insufficient, while humanitarian needs remain immense.

At the heart of the conflict, Churches committed to peace

In this landscape of violence and distress, Réforme also gives a voice of hope: that of a pastor involved in the Council of Churches of South Sudan. Through ecumenical dialogue, he tries to advance peace in a deeply damaged country.

In the United States, Donald Trump wants to “reconsecrate America to God”

Another subject in the summary: the United States, where Donald Trump wanted to open the festivities of the 250 years of American independence with a big day intended to “reconsecrate America to God”. Organized on the National Plaza in Washington, the event aroused numerous reactions in a country where the separation of Church and State remains a founding principle.
