Swine fever is appearing on film sets in Catalonia. The film “The Last Druid”, directed by Russell Crowe, is causing controversy because production will take place in a restricted area.
In Catalonia, swine fever continues to plague it, but this time, for a rather unusual reason. Indeed, this Thursday, May 21, the local press reports that a major Hollywood production could arrive for filming in the municipalities of Rubà and Sant Cugat, in the province of Barcelona, in Spain.
But there you have it, the chosen location, the old Can Sant Joan golf course, which straddles the two municipalities, is a restricted area due to swine fever. And yet it is there that the star Russell Crowe, notably known for his role in the film “Gladiator”, could travel for the filming of a new film called “The Last Druid” (the last druid, editor’s note).
On its site, Allocine reveals the synopsis: “A Roman emperor discovers a Druid fortress in the mountains of Caledonia. An ancient Celt must awaken his inner warrior to protect his family and his people from total annihilation.”
An arrival of the actor and crew in a few weeks
According to information from the media 3cat, filming could begin in June, while the actor and the crew would arrive on site within a few weeks. Our colleagues also indicate that they went to the site and noted the installation of certain decorations, “including the Celtic village where much of the plot will take place, as well as various equipment for the team, such as toilets and prefabricated modules.”
But there you have it, this meeting is not really to the taste of the residents who denounce a double standard. “If they’re opening the locations to shoot a movie, why can’t they open it for us?” one of them asked.
But then how did we get there? According to Televisio Sant Cugat, the production had authorization from INCASOL (Institut Català del Sòl), a Catalan public body whose mission is notably to manage land like this, to settle on the premises. All in connection with the Ministry of Agriculture. The latter would also have made filming conditional on compliance with the measures in force aimed at combating swine fever.
A first misstep
However, these famous measures are already not respected, according to local media. Indeed, they confide that rural agents would have noted that certain measures did not comply with the requirements of the local authorities. A letter should be sent to production so that they can comply.
