(Los Angeles) A judge on Tuesday stayed proceedings against a woman accused of attempted murder of Rihanna and more than a dozen other serious crimes. He referred the case to a psychiatric tribunal to determine whether she is fit to stand trial.

According to court documents, during a hearing in Los Angeles, in the judge’s chambers, the court-appointed lawyer, Derek Dillman, said he had doubts about the mental health of his client, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, originally from Orlando, Florida.

“It is the ethical duty of lawyers and the court to guarantee the protection of the rights of Mme Ortiz, in particular by allowing him to assist his lawyer in the conduct of his defense in a rational manner,” explained Mr.e Dillman dans un courriel adressé à l’Associated Press.

If found unfit to stand trial, she could be committed indefinitely to a state psychiatric hospital until she is able to answer the charges against her.
She is scheduled to appear June 2 in the same courtroom where a judge recently declared incompetent to stand trial a man accused of harassing Jennifer Aniston.
At a hearing a week earlier, Judge Cooley had refused to suspend the psychiatric evaluation procedure, to which MmeOrtiz objected, wanting the case to proceed to trial. She did not appear in court Tuesday. MmeCooley ordered his continued detention on bail of nearly US$2 million.
According to the police and the prosecution, on March 8, MmeOrtiz arrived in a Tesla in front of the property of star Rihanna and her companion, rapper A$AP Rocky, located in the Beverly Hills district. She allegedly pointed an AR-15 type rifle out the window and fired at least 20 bullets towards the property and a neighboring house. No one was injured.
According to police interviews of the couple, bullets hit an Airstream trailer inside which Rihanna and Rocky were located. Investigators noted bullet holes on the trailer and on the exterior wall of the child’s bedroom, located on the second floor, where the three children were with their nanny.
According to a police report, after his arrest later that day, Mme Ortiz allegedly told investigators, “I didn’t try to kill anyone.â€
MmeOrtiz is charged with ten counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, one count for each person present at the two properties. She is also charged with three counts of shooting into a vehicle or occupied dwelling.
Mme Ortiz had no prior criminal record, authorities said. Public records show she had been a licensed speech-language pathologist for more than ten years.
Authorities have not mentioned any motive or described any connection between her and Rihanna.
A nine-time Grammy Award winner, Rihanna has fourteen number one songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including We Found Love, Work, Umbrella et Disturbia.
