Rural students, researchers feted at Punjab Agricultural University

Ludhiana: The Dr Gurdev Singh Khush Foundation for the Advancement of Agricultural Sciences recently held its annual award function to honor academic excellence and contributions to agricultural research and development. A total of 72 GS Khush Merit Scholarships were awarded to outstanding undergraduate students from rural areas of Punjab at Punjab Agricultural University and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. Additionally, five GS Khush Travel Grants were given to faculty members and postgraduate students for international conference participation. Dr Tilak Raj Sharma received the Dr Darshan Singh Brar Award for his significant contributions to rice improvement, while Dr Buta Singh Dhillon was honored with the Dr Darshan Singh Brar Young Scientist Award for his work in rice production and management. Dr Anil Kumar Sharma received the Award for Excellence in Communication for his agricultural communication efforts. The event also featured lectures on the importance of livestock in Punjab’s agriculture and the need for agricultural diversification towards animal husbandry and horticulture. Dr Satbir Singh Gosal and Dr Gurdev Singh Khush commended the awardees and faculty members for their dedication to agricultural education and research.
