“We must not lie to the French, hybrid wars or direct wars will multiply,” also affirmed Sébastien Lecornu during the question session with the government.
“We have a crisis of imported energy inflation.” The Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, spoke on the war in the Middle East, Tuesday May 19, at the National Assembly, during the question session to the government. “All scenarios are on the table on the geopolitical terrain”, he declared, in response to a question from the leader of the Horizons deputies, Laurent Marcangeli, asking the French to “preparer” In an eventuality “resumption of fighting”.

“Armed operations across the entire area inevitably create expenses and impacts on public finances which were obviously not anticipated when we voted on the budget.”

“It’s a war. (…) The six billion euros that we have documented will have to be updated, obviously, in the times to come”he announced, promising to come back to it “in transparency”. Matignon specifies that this “update” does not necessarily mean an increase in the amount of these gels but a different distribution. Sébastien Lecornu is due to hold a press conference on Thursday on the economic consequences of the war in the Middle East.
On April 21, the government announced that six billion euros of spending could be stopped to compensate for the cost of this conflict, following a meeting on public finances in Bercy. Sébastien Lecornu then asked his government to implement four billion euros of “additional measures to curb spending”, within ministerial budgets, in a letter addressed to its ministers.
