It is another shock in the post-relegation turmoil of FC Metz. Following the catastrophic season experienced by the Grenats in Ligue 1, which ended with another relegation to a lower level, the 43-year-old general manager Helene Schrub has presented her resignation. The information, which had been circulating since Sunday evening, was then officially confirmed by the club on Monday, May 18.
In its statement, FC Metz praised “consistency and rare dedication” as well as “unfailing loyalty”. The club also refers to “personal reasons” that lead their leader to “start a new chapter in her life”.
Twenty years of service to the Grenat club
Originally from Metz and a graduate of Sciences Po Paris as well as the Center for Law and Economics of Sport in Limoges, Helene Schrub had joined the club in the mid-2000s after a stint in the banking sector. Initially in charge of communication, she was later appointed general secretary in 2012 before becoming general manager in 2016 under the presidency of Bernard Serin.
She had become one of the few women to hold such a position in the French professional football scene. In parallel, she joined the executive committee of the French Football Federation in 2021, where she currently chairs the commitment commission.
A committed transition
This resignation comes amid a particularly tense context for the Messin club, which is sportingly weakened after a season marked by poor results, tensions surrounding survival, and a new relegation to Ligue 2.
While waiting for the appointment of a new general manager, Anne-Claire Mangel, the current general manager of FC Metz Stadium, is serving as interim.
