Booneville Man Accused of Breaking into Rolla Apartment with Handgun

A Booneville man is facing five felony charges after he allegedly forced his way into a Rolla apartment while armed with a handgun early Sunday morning.

Shawn J. Allen, 28, is accused of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action.

According to a probable cause statement, officers were dispatched Sunday around 3:04 a.m. for a reported burglary in progress at an apartment in Rolla.

When officers arrived, they found the apartment door open with a broken door jamb, damaged trim and wood pieces scattered across the entryway, according to court documents. Police said the two victims appeared visibly shaken and trembling.

Investigators said the victims told officers Allen had been pounding on the apartment door and windows while demanding one of the victims come outside. According to court documents, Allen allegedly displayed a handgun before kicking in the front door and entering the apartment.

Court records state Allen pointed the gun at the victims and continued threatening them after entering the apartment. One victim asked Allen whether he intended to kill him, and investigators said Allen nodded ‘yes,’ according to the probable cause statement. The victims told police they believed Allen would carry out the threat.

Police arrested Allen at about 9:46 a.m. Sunday near East Third Street and North Walnut Street in Rolla, according to court documents.

Court records show his bond was set at $50,000.
