SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two people were killed, and another was seriously injured, following a crash in Butler County Saturday night. Family and friends gathered Sunday at the site on Freeport Road to remember 22-year-old Skyler Gray and 19-year-old Nevaeh Schweinsberg.
“I couldn’t have had a better friend to me throughout the years, and I’m sad to see him go,” friend Tyler Butler said. The crash happened around 10 p.m. Saturday in Summit Township.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, Gray was driving west on Freeport Road when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway before coming back onto the road, spinning out, overturning and crashing into a tree. Gray and Schweinsberg died from their injuries.
Police said a 17-year-old girl who was also inside the vehicle was ejected during the crash and airlifted to UPMC Mercy with serious injuries.
Investigators said DUI was a factor in the crash. “He would tell you that wasn’t him, that he should have made a better decision,” Butler said. “And it happens. I want everyone to just know that he was a great guy and that he loved everyone who cared about him.”
Debris and visible damage from the crash remained at the scene Sunday evening. Family and friends have created a memorial on top. Loved ones said Gray leaves behind a large family, including his mother, grandmother, four siblings and his 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Kiarah. “He loved her to death,” Butler said. “That was his everything. After he had her, he tried to do everything he could for her.”
State police are continuing to investigate the crash.
