A rescue and a clinching at the end of the National 2 season! US Granville went on to win 0-1 against Chauray to escape the relegation zone they had been stuck in for a long time. Granville also benefited from a defeat by Saumur, a direct competitor for avoiding relegation.

It was a real nail-biter, as US Granville finally secured their place in National 2, the fourth tier of French football, at the end of the championship’s final matchday, thanks to their victory over Chauray (Deux-Sèvres) with a one-nil score.

It was a penalty, converted by Mathis Cherchour in the 50th minute, that secured the win for the team from Manche, the only goal that guaranteed the three points. But it wasn’t enough, as at the same time, Saumur, Granville’s direct competitor for avoiding relegation, stumbled. As Granville clinched the victory, Saumur fell to Bayonne (3-2).

After spending a long time in the relegation zone, especially in last place, the Granville team capitalized on a very strong second half of the season, including an unbeaten streak of nine matches to finish the season (three wins and six draws, with the last loss dating back to March 14). US Granville will definitely be in the fourth division next season.
