This is a novelty that will bring a smile to all pirate fans. In Aubagne the first festival exclusively dedicated to pirate culture will be held on Saturday June 20 and Sunday June 21 at Jean-Moulin Park.
For this first, the organizers wanted to pay tribute to the pirate Olivier Levasseur, known as “the buzzard”, whose treasure is still being sought. Over the course of the weekend, it will be a question of following his wanderings across continents.
On the menu of this festival, numerous activities highlighting world cultures through dances and songs from different continents. A concert on Saturday evening with the famous Celtic rock group, Barbar’ O Rhum and on Sunday afternoon Brothers of Ireland. Large parades and shows will be on the program. A meeting that the president of the Tortuga association, Philippe Baumela hopes to see become a festive, popular and intergenerational event: “That’s 20 years that I am in the pirate culture, I hope that this festival will exist in time especially for its recurring side which will allow us, little by little, to bring in large troupes and big groups more easily, even if we still have for this first edition a well-known musical group (Barbar O Rhum), especially in the north. »
The festival is divided into several large areas with a world tour: Asia, America, Europe and Africa.
A festival that touches different cultures
Troops from these four continents will parade during this weekend, an opportunity to discover certain dances and practices that even the biggest pirate fans don’t know. “We have always loved the different folklores around the world and Olivier Levasseur’s journey is also a pretext to link this tour of the world and these different continents“, declares the president of Tortuga. The event will bring together more than 100 artisans who will be present in a huge craft market. In addition to this international panorama, the creation of this festival also aims to promote the history of piracy and to highlight culture, in particular the possibility of meeting actors specializing in pirate history. “Our very clear objective is to make this meeting the pirate meeting for several years “, insists Philippe Baumela. An ambitious project for some but highly symbolic for all fans of pirate culture and the curious.
