Lyon: a unique exhibition plunges into the world of Serge Gainsbourg

The MC2M Gallery, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, will dedicate an exhibition and sale all summer to Serge Gainsbourg, an essential figure in French song and popular culture. Baptized « Serge Gainsbourg – Traits de génie »this retrospective will be held from June 18 to August 29, 2026 rue Auguste Comte.

Original manuscripts, rare photographs, annotated scores and signed documents will allow us to discover a more intimate side of the artist, behind the provocative character who became a national icon.

Manuscripts and photographs rarely exhibited

The exhibition will bring together several rare pieces around the work and life of Serge Gainsbourg, including song manuscripts, unpublished photographs and autograph documents retracing different periods of his career.

The tour will return as much to the lyricist and composer as to the media figure who left his mark on several generations. Among the works announced are photos linked to his concerts at the Zénith, photographs of César ceremonies and even archives around his relationship with Jane Birkin and Bambou.

The MC2M Gallery seeks here to go beyond the image of the television provocateur to bring back to light the writing work and the artistic dimension of a creator who has profoundly influenced French song.

The opening is scheduled for Thursday June 18 from 6:30 p.m. at the MC2M Gallery, located at 21 rue Auguste Comte in the antiques district.
