Donald Trump has invited Xi Jinping to the White House next September. The Minister of Finance, Scott Bessent, also stated that the American president will “speak more in the coming days” on Taiwan.

Xi Jinping and Donald Trump discussed on Thursday during their summit in Beijing the situation in the Middle East, Ukraine, and the Korean peninsula. The American president described his discussions with his counterpart Xi Jinping as “extremely positive and productive.”

“We had, earlier in the day, extremely positive and productive conversations and meetings with the Chinese delegation,” he declared, at a banquet held in his honor at the Great Hall of the People.

At the same banquet, Donald Trump invited Xi Jinping to the White House. “I have the honor of inviting you and Madame Peng to visit the White House on September 24,” he announced, addressing Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan.

“In the coming days”

Regarding Taiwan, Donald Trump will speak more “in the coming days,” said the American Finance Minister, Scott Bessent, to CNBC. “It wouldn’t be a US/China summit if the issue of Taiwan wasn’t addressed,” the minister said, accompanying the American president in China.

“President Trump understands the stakes and grasps the sensitivities” of the subject, “anyone who claims otherwise does not understand Donald Trump’s negotiating style,” added Scott Bessent.

China considers Taiwan as one of its provinces, which it aims to “reunify” with the rest of its territory. It advocates for peaceful control but does not rule out the use of force.

“The Taiwan issue is the most important in Sino-American relations,” Xi Jinping told Donald Trump on Thursday, adding that “if handled well, the relations between the two countries (China and the United States) can remain generally stable. If handled poorly, the two countries will clash, or even conflict.”
