At the end of the defeat against PSG, RC Lens paid a heartfelt tribute to Adrien Thomasson and Wesley Saïd, who will be leaving the club at the end of the season and played their final match at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Disappointment quickly turned into emotion. On Wednesday, RC Lens lost to Paris Saint-Germain in a postponed match from the 29th round of Ligue 1. This result definitively sealed the fate of the French title race, with a record fourteenth crown for the capital club. However, after the match, Pierre Sage’s players remained on the pitch at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis for a moment of celebration. This high-profile match was the last of the season for the Sang-et-Or in front of their fans and the last overall for two players. Adrien Thomasson and Wesley Saïd will not continue their adventure with the club. After receiving a guard of honor from their teammates, they were greeted by club president Joseph Oughourlian and sports director Jean-Louis Leca.
Thomasson expressed, “It has been an honor and a pride to wear this jersey, to play in an incredible stadium filled every weekend.” Meanwhile, Saïd mentioned his departure to Qatar this summer and reflected on the memorable moments he experienced.
Saying goodbye at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis brought back many memories and emotions for Saïd, leaving Pierre Sage feeling both sad for the loss of two excellent players and happy for their new opportunities. Recognizing them as extraordinary men, Sage praised their character and expressed how much they will be missed. As RC Lens prepares to return to the Champions League, a new team will take the field at the continental level in the coming months.
