A decreasing policy: the RN files a motion of censure to protest against the decree on energy strategy by 2035

The government will once again face motions of censure from the RN and LFI. The two opposition groups announced on Monday, February 23, the submission of two motions of censure against the government to protest the publication by decree of France’s energy strategy for 2035.

Marine Le Pen, the president of the RN group, had called on MPs hostile to this Multiannual Energy Programming (PPE3) to submit a motion of censure, stating that the RN would do so if not. RN MPs submitted their motion of censure on Monday, a source within the group told AFP.

The party protests “in form” against “an illiberal act against Parliament”, and in substance against “a declining policy that accelerates intermittent energies, lies about nuclear power, and poses a major risk to public finances”. It believes the government should have passed a law according to the Energy Code, and highlights an “irrational choice” of intermittent energies dictated by the European Commission.

The censure motion will be examined no later than Wednesday, due to a mandatory 48-hour period between the submission and examination. It is unlikely to be adopted, as so far RN censure motions have never been supported by the left.

Context: RN and LFI have filed motions of censure against the government over the energy strategy decree.

Fact Check: The RN and LFI motions of censure are unlikely to be adopted due to lack of support from other parties.
