Music never stops invading cinemas. From Wednesday May 13, and for a few sessions over several days, it is one of the precursors of heavy metal which is told on the big screen: the group Iron Maiden. In this documentary, Burning Ambitionthese are 50 years of guitars, fury, gigantic concerts, excesses of all kinds and successive rebirths which present themselves before our eyes. A story that continues on stage – Iron Maiden will notably headline at Hellfest and in concert at Paris’ La Défense Arena in June – and of which we discover the turbulent backstage.

End of the 70s, in London. Punk arrives and takes everything, but a group in leather and long hair roams the bars in the east of the capital, roaring its rebellion in another way. Under the direction of Steve Harris, the founder, Iron Maiden grew, inventing an apocalyptic universe, imposing its horrific mascot, Eddie, who adorns their albums and millions of fan t-shirts around the world.

Fans who testify in front of the camera for the documentary, from the anonymous to the most famous: the actor Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich – the drummer of Metallica – or even Chuck D – of Public Enemy -. The sound and the fury have always accompanied the group, the ups and downs, the arrival of singer Bruce Dickinson who takes them into another dimension, but also drugs, fatigue, illness, time and passing fashions. All members of the group honestly testify to this. Fifty years later, the group is still touring, with wrinkles and more, the fans are still as numerous as ever.
