Ligue 2. Key numbers of a frustrating season for Pau FC

After a successful first third of the season, the string of poor performances that followed with the defeat at home against Dunkerque (0-3, Matchday 11) and the thrashing received from Saint-Etienne (6-0, Matchday 12) clearly felt like a wake-up call. The six meager wins in the last 25 games of the season illustrate this. Despite achieving a historic 9th place for the club since its promotion to Ligue 2, the feeling is mixed. Average, just like the ranking: Pau finish 13 points behind the top 5 and only ahead of relegation playoff contender Laval at the bottom of the table.

It’s not going well at home

The main regrets that the people of Béarn will have this season will undoubtedly be shared with the supporters of Nouste Camp. Until now, Pau FC had often secured their survival thanks to their home performances. This time, it was the opposite as they only took 20 points at home compared to 25 away. Pau even went through a series of ten winless matches at home between the victory against Clermont (October 3) and the one against Guingamp (April 17).

The fact that the Pau squad often showed more comfort in transition naturally had an impact. As well as the trauma that seemed to gradually settle in the minds of players unable to secure three points in games that were well within their reach, like against Bastia or Grenoble.
