France is today the second largest arms exporter in the world, a rank at which sales of Rafale of Dassault are not foreign. But if the national defense industrial and technological base (BITD) is capable of producing the entire spectrum of military equipment, the Caesar cannon also stands out as one of the most widely distributed products internationally. At the end of 2025, around 800 units had been ordered from KNDSalmost half of which have already been delivered.
New deliveries took place over the weekend: on Sunday May 10, the Armenian Minister of Defense published on his Facebook page a video showing two copies, in preparation for next May 28, the date of the parade organized on the occasion of Republic Day (Hanrabedoutian don), which coincides with the commemoration of the Battle of Sardarabadwon against Turkish forces in 1918. If Armenia signed its contract in 2024 for the acquisition of an unspecified number of Caesar 6×6 (trucks equipped with an artillery system) from KNDSthe local press mentions an order for 36 copies.
The best-seller from the European leader in land defense equips 15 countries: France (221 units, including 5 pre-production and 30 sold to kyiv), Saudi Arabia (156), Ukraine (90 + 49 sold), the Republic Czech Republic (62), Indonesia (55), Armenia (36), Morocco (36), Portugal (36), Belgium (28), Denmark (19, later ceded to Kiev), Croatia (18), Lithuania (18), Estonia (12), Slovenia (12) and Thailand (6). If these customers are confirmed, other countries located in the Gulf or South America are in negotiations to obtain them.
But why is Caesar so popular? His notoriety really exploded three years ago, when Vladimir Poutine launched the invasion of Ukraine. Deployed on the ground, this piece of artillery stood out for its efficiency: equipped with a 155 mm cannon offering a range of approximately 40 kilometers, it can fire up to six shells in less than a minute with great precision. Installed on a wheeled truck, the system benefits from high mobility, allowing it to quickly change position and escape counter-battery fire. HAS” This is a very important factor in contemporary warfare“, a Ukrainian commander recently explained to AFP.
Unit price between 3 and 5 million euros
Since 2022, order books for KNDS have grown significantly, leading to a significant increase in production rates. “Today, our factory is fully part of the war economy“, affirmed to the JDD, in 2025, its general director, Nicolas Chamussy. Before the Ukrainian conflict, two to four Caesar cannons rolled off the production lines each month; in 2025, the Bourges site was already producing eight.
Offered at a price of between 3 and 5 million euros per unit, the French system displays remarkable performance on the Ukrainian front: with an attrition rate of less than 10%, it puts lasting pressure on the Russian forces.
