The All Blacks continue to reshape their staff. Thus, a former world champion as coach will bring his experience to New Zealand.

Making something new out of something old is clearly the policy of la Fédération néozélandaise. This Tuesday, in front of the local media, the new coach Dave Rennie announced the arrival of Graham Henry in his staff. His precise role has not been indicated. Now aged 79, he was at the head of the All Blacks from 2004 to 2011, the year he won the World Cup against the French XV (8-7).

Maybe he’ll see things we don’t see

“I’m really excited to welcome ‘Ted’ to the selection committeeRennie declared. I had several discussions with him before applying for this position…and he told me about the influence Sir Brian Lochore had as a member of the selection committee when he was manager, which gave me food for thought. He is very passionate and he loves the jersey. He watches a lot of rugby and has strong opinions on the players, so our conversations have been great. We hope that with his discerning eye, he might see things that we don’t see, which will help us select the right people on the team.”

As a reminder, on March 4, Dave Rennie was appointed New Zealand coach following the dismissal of Scott Robertson on January 15. In position until the 2027 World Cup, he will be assisted, in addition to Graham Henry, by Neil Barnes (senior assistant coach), Mike Blair (attack coach), Tana Umaga (defense coach), Jase Ryan (forward coach), Gilbert Enoka (preparateur mental) and Phil Healey (performance manager).
