(WTAP) – Here’s a look at your afternoon headlines and weather for May 11.

Weather: Dry start to the week, storms return Wednesday

Enjoy the nice stretch the next two days with partly cloudy skies Monday and a high near 68, then mostly sunny Tuesday with a high around 75.

No rain is expected Monday or Tuesday. Showers and storms return Wednesday as a cold front moves in, with rain possible during the morning commute and additional afternoon thunderstorms; highs should reach the low 70s.

Cooler air follows Thursday (highs in the low 60s) before warming back into the 70s Friday.

Dry weather looks to continue into the weekend, with heat building and highs climbing into the 80s Saturday and Sunday.

Waterford High School teacher arraigned after alleged punch of student

A Waterford High School teacher accused of punching a student last week was arraigned Monday morning. Matthew Ryan Warden pleaded not guilty to two assault charges, and the judge dismissed a temporary restraining order issued Friday.

Warden is accused of punching one student in the jaw and attempting to punch another; a pretrial hearing date has not been set.

Gov. Mike DeWine appoints new Ohio attorney general

Gov. Mike DeWine announced Andy Wilson, director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, will serve as Ohio’s attorney general through the end of the year. Wilson oversees the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Homeland Security and the Office of Criminal Justice Services.

The appointment follows current Attorney General Dave Yost’s planned resignation June 7 to join Alliance Defending Freedom.

One dead after crash in Wirt County

West Virginia State Police say a Calhoun County man died after a crash in Wirt County on Sunday. Troopers identified the victim as 59-year-old Steve Boggs of Grantsville.

Investigators say the crash happened around 2:50 p.m. on Little Kanawha Parkway near Chestnut Run Road in Elizabeth, when the vehicle went off the road, hit a pole and rolled over; the crash remains under investigation.

Marshall names first STUNT coach

Marshall University announced Evynn Richard as the school’s first STUNT head coach.

Richard previously coached at Cal Baptist University, where the program went 125-0 and won five straight national championships since she joined the staff in 2021.

Richard is scheduled to be introduced at a public news conference May 26 at 9 a.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.
