Throughout France, the French Canon banquets attract thousands of participants. Between local products, French variety and meetings, these festive events at 80 euros retain an ever-increasing audience in search of conviviality.

To participate in a French Canon banquet, you need to pay around 80 euros. A price that regulars seem ready to pay without hesitation to benefit from a concept that attracts more French people every year. Throughout France, these large tables mixing local gastronomy, music and conviviality are regularly sold out.

On the menu, local products, cheese, meat, wine and popular French songs are on the program. All in a festive atmosphere which sometimes brings together several thousand participants. The enthusiasm does not weaken, as in Montélimar.

David, 52, discovered the French Canon almost a year ago. Since then, he has had a series of meetings, this banquet is already the 13th in which he has participated: “I have followed this almost everywhere, it does me good, it recharges my batteries. In fact, it’s my breath of fresh air.”

The man particularly appreciates the principle of large tables where places are assigned randomly: “Eating at the table, we are placed randomly, we eat with people we don’t even know.”

A formula that quickly encourages meetings. Some strangers even become true friends.

Bonds that are created over the course of the banquets

Last year, during the Canonniers festival in Molières, David came alone. On site, he made friends with several participants. This year, they decided to come back together.

“We have shared accommodation, we are going to eat together. That’s the French Canon: discovering the regions, new people, having fun with joy and good humor around good local products.”

The spirit of conviviality is what most appeals to those who attend the event.

“We don’t talk about politics or football”

Vanessa, a mother and a regular at banquets, comes above all to enjoy a simple and relaxed moment. With one essential rule according to her: “It’s like family meals: we don’t talk about politics, we don’t talk about football. We’re just there to relax.”

And to relax, participants can also count on the musical atmosphere. Between two courses, guests are invited to dance, near their table or in front of the stage.

On the music side, the French Canon focuses on the great classics of French variety. Joe Dassin, Édith Piaf and even the essential Michel Delpech punctuate these long festive evenings where sharing and conviviality are the key words.
