In Europe, 45% of the population in Ireland, 44% in France, and 42% in Spain were using generative AI by the second half of 2025. However, according to a study published on May 10, only 20.3% of Europeans expressed “confidence” in ChatGPT, the OpenAI chatbot.

This percentage is significantly lower compared to countries in the “South.”

– In Africa, the average trust in generative AI is 61.8%. – In South America, it stands at 51.1%. – In Asia, it reaches 50%.

Countries like Nigeria and India, with a combined population of 1.7 billion, have over two-thirds of their population (80.4% and 72.5% respectively) placing trust in generative AI.

After reaching a peak in October 2025, trust in generative AI has been declining in Anglo-Saxon countries (United States, Canada, and Australia) and Europe. This trend is the opposite in Asia and South America, where the adoption rate is lower.

Positive perceptions of ChatGPT and trust in chatbots seem to be linked to concerns about AI replacing human jobs.

– In the United States, where thousands of jobs have already been lost due to automation, young people (aged 18 to 29) are less trusting of ChatGPT: only 13%, compared to 30% in France and Germany.

American views on AI are more pessimistic, with relative trust in information provided by chatbots.

According to Stanford University’s latest report on AI:

– 84% of respondents in China show enthusiasm for products and services using AI, while only 38% in the United States share this sentiment. – Less than a third (31%) of Americans trust their government to regulate AI responsibly. – In Asia, three-quarters of the population on average express trust in their government’s handling of AI regulation.
