Islamabad, Pakistan – In Pakistan, the month of May began with celebrations honoring the military leaders who guided the country in the four-day aerial war with India last year. The Pakistan Air Force held a ceremony in Rawalpindi to mark its achievements, while Lahore hosted a government-organized concert to celebrate what Pakistan calls the “Day of the Battle of Truth.” Across the border, India also celebrated its perceived victory, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi changing his profile picture to the official logo of Operation Sindoor and urging all Indians to do the same.

Both countries have touted their military successes, with India claiming to have destroyed Pakistani aircraft and airfields, while Pakistan emphasized their victory over a larger enemy and showcased new missile systems. Analysts, however, question the true outcomes of the conflict and whether lessons have been learned.

The conflict exposed vulnerabilities on both sides, with Pakistan focusing on upgrading its missile capabilities while India’s air defense posture remains a concern. The suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India has also raised tensions, impacting Pakistan’s water security. The long-term outlook for the region remains uncertain, with challenges such as climate change and territorial disputes exacerbating existing tensions.

India and Pakistan continue to grapple with unresolved issues stemming from the conflict, with diplomatic solutions still elusive. Analysts warn of the potential for rapid escalation and stress the importance of investing in diplomacy to prevent future conflicts.
