Strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and Turkey

Affirming that Turkey considers Vietnam an important partner in Southeast Asia, President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Numan Kurtulmus stressed that similarities in history, cultural identity, foreign policy and family values constitute favorable factors to carry the relations bilateral relations at a higher level.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Turkey, Dang Thi Thu Ha, was received on May 7 in Ankara by the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmus, in order to discuss the prospects for the development of bilateral relations.

​During this meeting, Numan Kurtulmus welcomed the success of the recent working visit of the President of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Tran Thanh Man, carried out on the occasion of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) organized in Istanbul last April.

​He said he was particularly impressed by the sincerity as well as the concrete proposals formulated by his Vietnamese counterpart to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries, particularly between their legislative bodies.

​Stating that Turkey considers Vietnam an important partner in Southeast Asia, Numan Kurtulmus stressed that the similarities in history, cultural identity, foreign policy and family values ​​constitute favorable factors to take bilateral relations to a higher level.

​He also called for increased enhancement of the role of parliamentary friendship groups in order to promote people-to-people exchanges, cultural connectivity and decentralized cooperation, thus contributing to strengthening mutual understanding and ties between the two countries and their National Assemblies.

​For her part, Ambassador Dang Thi Thu Ha expressed congratulations to Turkey for the successful organization of IPU-152 and thanked Turkish leaders for the solemn and warm welcome given to Vietnam’s high-ranking delegation. On this occasion, the diplomat conveyed greetings as well as the official invitation from President of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man to Numan Kurtulmus for an official visit to Vietnam as soon as possible.

​Welcoming the significant progress recorded in the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, the ambassador reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to strengthening its relations of friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Turkey.

​She proposed several concrete measures aimed at intensifying exchanges in the political, diplomatic, economic and commercial fields, as well as in matters of security and defense, while strengthening closer parliamentary coordination.

​In conclusion, Numan Kurtulmus wished Ambassador Dang Thi Thu Ha a fruitful mandate in the service of developing bilateral relations and confirmed her intention to pay an official visit to Vietnam soon.-VNA/VI
