During the Council of Ministers on Wednesday April 29, 2026, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, returned to the 7th Conference of Ambassadors, Consuls General and Consuls of Senegal, which he chaired on April 18 around the theme: “Senegalese diplomacy and the renewal of international cooperation: principles and modes of action.”

The Head of State praised the professionalism of the Senegalese diplomats as well as the quality of the organization of this meeting, congratulating in particular the Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad as well as all diplomatic and consular staff.

On this occasion, Bassirou Diomaye Faye reaffirmed his desire to reposition Senegalese diplomacy around an approach more oriented towards economic and strategic issues. He thus insisted on the need to strengthen good neighborliness, African integration, multilateralism and the international influence of Senegal.

The President of the Republic above all called for the systematic anchoring of a true economic diplomacy in the service of the Vision “Senegal 2050”. According to him, this new orientation of Senegalese foreign policy must be based on three major axes: the promotion of the attractiveness of Senegal, the mobilization of advantageous bilateral and multilateral financing, as well as the development of strategic partnerships.

In this dynamic, the Head of State instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Cooperation as well as the Minister of Finance and Budget to propose, before the end of June 2026, a new national strategy for international cooperation and partnerships.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye also insisted on the need to strengthen the human, budgetary and financial resources of diplomatic missions in order to improve the economic promotion of Senegal abroad.

The President also mentioned the situation of Senegalese in the diaspora, calling for better administrative and social support, particularly in the issuance of national identity cards and passports. He also requested the acceleration of the special program intended to support the initiatives, projects and investments of Senegalese established abroad.

The head of state instructed the government to work on a five-year program to modernize the diplomatic and consular network, with the objectives of improving the working conditions of Senegalese representations and strengthening the culture of results in the conduct of Senegal’s foreign policy.
