Donald Trump announced on Friday, May 8, a three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia from Saturday, while Moscow had already declared a unilateral truce before the commemorations in Russia on May 9.
“Let us hope that this is the beginning of the end of a very long, bloody and difficult war,” wrote the American president on his Truth Social platform, specifying that the truce would notably include “a prisoner exchange of 1,000 detainees from each country”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday confirmed the three-day ceasefire with Russia announced by Donald Trump, demanding its implementation from May 9 to 11. “A ceasefire must be in place on May 9, 10 and 11,” he said, adding that Kiev had received the green light from Moscow for a vast prisoner exchange.

The president of Ukraine also ordered the Ukrainian army not to attack the May 9 parade in Moscow, the date of celebrations in Russia of the German capitulation in 1945, according to a decree published on the presidential website.
Moscow also confirmed this three-day truce and an exchange of prisoners of war with Kiev. “I confirm that the Russian side accepts the initiative proposed by American President Donald Trump concerning a ceasefire for an exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine,” the Russian president’s diplomatic advisor told journalists, Yuri Ushakov. Â
